Scheggino is another small village located about 5 km from the B&B, there is a small medieval village with less than about 500 inhabitants, it almost seems to be in a fairytale town, all built around ancient castles with picturesque streets and houses in stone. If you love taking leisurely walks you are in the right place.
Scheggino is located in the beautiful valley of the black river surrounded by green fields. A medieval pearl that will leave you speechless. You can see it immediately when arriving from Spoleto along the provincial road 209 which runs through Scheggino, beautiful tall stone houses and narrow barricades right at the foot of a hill and the medieval castle tower. The village was built around the 17th century around the five centuries older fortress. The medieval village of Scheggino it is among the most beautiful in Italy, it is really very small and a few hours are enough to visit it. But you must not miss a visit to the VALCASANA SPRINGS which flow not far from the town and which offer a natural spectacle.
In the historic center of the town the famous church of SAN NICOLA was built in the 13th century and then completely rebuilt in the 16th century and is adorned with beautiful frescoes. The church of SANTA FELICITA’ is also interesting and has an almost primitive architectural style. The castle known as CAPO THE LAND dates back to the 13th century, built close to the ancient fortress, probably to accommodate the inhabitants of the nearby feudal castle of POZZANO after its destruction.
It is famous for the URBANI TRUFFLE MUSEUM and for the BLACK DIAMOND FESTIVAL where they make huge truffle omelettes.
