On a hill at an altitude of 326 meters above sea level and not far from CASTEL SAN FELICE we find the village of S’ANATOLIA DI NARCO. It was built at the end of the 12th century on the ancient Castle of Narco, destroyed by Spoleto and later named after the Saint. The city walls have an elliptical shape into which the doors opened. Today only a door remains surmounted by a high bell tower with a clock.
Near the eastern door “THE CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA DELLE GRAZIE” with precious frescoes by the master DI EGGI inside, among which the most important one depicting “THE MADONNA DEL LATTE”. Of considerable importance is the ECOMUSEUM OF HEMP, testimony of the ancient techniques used for hemp weaving. Outside the walls is the former Church of SANTA CROCE from the 13th-14th century, with the small Franciscan convent attached. On the old road to CASTEL SAN FELICE it is possible to admire a public wash house from the 17th century.
On the Palombara road, one of the toll booths of the former SPOLETO-NORCIA railway, today the old paths have been transformed into a cycle path and trekking route that runs parallel to the FONDOVALLE road and the course of the Nera, touching the villages of CASTEL SAN FELICE, PIEDI PATERNO and VILLAGE CERRETO.
For those who love the genuine flavors of the mountains in SANTA ANATOLIA DI NARCO you will find tasty lupari, wild asparagus, brown trout truffles from the Nera river and excellent cheeses and cured meats produced by shepherds and small local consortia.
