
Norcia is a small village of approximately 4892 inhabitants and is included in the SIBILLINI MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, located between the VALNERINA area of the narrow river valley carved out by the NERA river and its tributaries and the steep mountains of the SIBILLINI MOUNTAINS, the mountainous area of tectonic origin characterized by peaks capable of reaching and exceeding 2000 meters which open up to plateaus rich in grazing of cattle and flocks, rich in mountain floral species including artemisia, anemone, gentian and Martagone lily. the woods are populated by roe deer, wild cats and squirrels, thanks to repopulation works the wild boar has also been able to make its reappearance.
We also find small packs of wild wolves, also present the golden eagle, peregrine falcon and wallcreeper and spotted woodpecker, like a breath of pure air!!!! Returning to the town of NORCIA, the artistic-monumental fulcrum certainly revolves around to the central square where we find the Renaissance flavor and here famous THE BASILICA OF SAN BENEDETTO, THE PORTICO DELLE MESURE (an indoor cereal market, in stone built in 1570), THE TEMPLE and many other monuments until reaching the hamlet of Savelli approximately 12 km from Norcia where you can admire Bramante’s frescoes of the MADONNA DELLA NEVE. Norcia is famous for its truffles and its pork butchery products (famous throughout Italy). One of the famous products is Norcia ham, awarded with the PGI mark. Also famous for its craftsmanship, the working of wrought iron for the production of chandeliers, lanterns depicting animals.
We find cultural events all year round but how can we not go to the famous FESTIVAL OF THE FINE BLACK TRUFFLE between the end of February and the beginning of March. 100 producers displaying their delicacies, not only truffles but also cured meats, cheeses accompanied by an excellent wine. Obviously the calendar is full of events, music, tastings, among which there is one not to be missed called “WALK AND TASTE”, every week a NATURALISTIC WALK will be proposed starting from P.ZZA SAN BENEDETTO interspersed with stops FOOD AND WINE where you can enjoy traditional NURSINA cuisine, truffle omelette, lentil salads, grandmother’s soups, game, cheeses, cured meats and more.
Upon departure it will be possible to visit an EXHIBITION dedicated to ancient crafts, the route is also suitable for children. As in the entire Umbrian area, here too the numerous hiking trails in the park offer the possibility of MOUNTAIN BIKE, HORSE TREKKING WITH MULES, FREE FLIGHT WITH HANG-GLIDING OR PARAGLIDING.
