About 28 km from NORCIA and about 50 km from the B&B we find CATELLUCCIO DA NORCIA, a small fraction of NORCIA.
Castelluccio is located at the top of a hill and rises on the plateau of the same name (PIANI DI CASTELLUCCIO) among the largest in central Italy, and is included in the SIBILLINI MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, at an altitude of 1452 m above sea level which make them one of the highest inhabited centers in the Apennines. In front stands the silhouette of MONTE VETTORE (2476 m above sea level).
The presence of man has been evidenced since Roman times with the discovery of some objects in terracotta near the CANATRA SOURCE, several Roman coins were found in the foundations of a house.Catelluccio was an ancient castle in the orbit of Norcia built to defend the eastern border of the pastures.The economy is closely linked to sheep farming , agriculture, including the famous Lenticchia di Castelluccio.
During the winter the FORCA CANAPINE locality hosts ski lifts for those who love skiing, in the warmer periods there is no shortage of hiking activities and also the entire area of the Castelluccio plains for those who are passionate paragliding is practiced precisely to its orographic conformation and for which the almost total absence of pylons and antennas, in the country you will in fact find several points of flight schools for enthusiasts and beginners from all over Europe. But in addition to all this, it is very famous for the colors that explode on the plain in spring, it looks like a painting painted by a very good painter. The PARCO DEI MONTI SIBILLINI is a protected area, in fact it is home to animals such as the wolf, the Golden eagle, and the peregrine falcon. We then find THE CIMA DEL REDENTORE the highest peak in Umbria where you can see the thousand colors in bloom in spring, THE SIBILLA’S CAVE inhabited according to legend by a sorceress who foresaw the future.
The cuisine is typical of lentils and for those who love soups they are the most expert, and so as not to repeat themselves truffles and game are their peculiarities, they still have those customs that are being lost such as pasta and homemade desserts strictly at home with very fresh eggs….and good red wine.
